Hit pause again and it'll play back from where you left off, but now you'll be able to skip through ad breaks. Time shifting allows you to rewind a live show by up to four hours (even more if you change the default setting), and then play it back frame by frame. It's a perfect feature for those sporting moments when you know the umpire got it wrong, and require blow-by-blow analysis.

Real-Time One Touch Recording

By installing 2.5" HDD hard drive or connecting to any USB storage device, the R2230 gives you ability record with various features like direct recording, scheduled recording through EPG (Electronic Program Guide). You can easily upgrade and expand the capacity of HDD like PC up-grading, it can back up the recorded files to or from the PC, Digital Camera or TV programs. It will also support movie files from Blu Ray DVDs such as VOB and ISO files. With the TViX PVR you are able to record your favourite programs by setting the scheduler, and with your weekly shows you just change the cycle. All you need to do is set the time once and forget about it!

LOVE IT!

By Pretty lady

from Syd

Pros

  • cheap
  • Compact
  • Lots of functions

Cons

  • Buy hard disc separately
  • MANUAL NOT DETAILED
  • Manual not easy to read
  • Who needs a tivo

Best Uses

  • Pausing live tv
  • Set top box

Like everyone says, for a set top box, it has alot of other features. I bought a dvd recorder a few yrs back for 250$ and it doesnt record HD tv. This does a whole lot more than I bargained for.

Like a tivo the disavantage is that if the show doesnt start on time you miss yout the end of the show, unless you record the next show a well.

Great functions - tiny text

By Ell

from Perth

Verified Reviewer

Pros

  • Comes with remote
  • Easy Set Up
  • Size

Cons

  • EPG too hard to see
  • Purchase seperate HDD
  • Text in Tvix is too small

Best Uses

  • Plays files from USB
  • Record from old VHS

I am extremely happy with my purchase except I was told by a retail outlet tech guy that I could use my portable hard drive via USB to record. I can't/don't know how. Now I must purchase seperate HDD for extra cost.
If you have any eye sight difficulties and are purchasing for the EPG, like me, you will be dissapointed as I have to get within half a metre to read the text and still can not see it clearly, making life really difficult.

In hindsight I've impressed myself with my decision to get it.

By Imwilly

from Rural south east Queesnland

Verified Reviewer

Pros

  • Compact
  • Good solid feel to it
  • Simple initial connection
  • Very functional

Cons

  • If you want it you need to print the manual from the CD yourself
  • Need to buy a drive if required
  • No hdmi cable included

Best Uses

  • For me hosting USB drivestick and camera

As soon as I got it, I plugged it in without a drive. As a straight HD Set Top Box (no drive) it worked fine and was cheaper than any I've seen in the commercial retail outlets, and I've been looking.

Still has a lot of functionality straight out of the box.

Half way through the week I finally got the 2.5" 500Gb drive I bought for. Plugged in easy as. Had to manually tell it to do a format but it's not like it was hard. Naturally you don't have to install a drive but for the extra functionality, why wouldn't you.

For the price it's a real bargain. So, for the price and size I can't believe how much you can do with it.

Maybe there is something better on the market, but I think you'd really have to look hard for it and I bet it also has a correspondingly better price.

Brilliant

By Brett

from Perth, WA

I was also skeptical about the product but for[$] I can hardly fault it. It actually works faster than my inbuild HD tuner, the interface is user friendly and it displays the current channel in a small window when viewing the EPG. I could not believe that such a small unit to be a PVR.Cons are that it looks loses it sleek look if you connect a USB hard drive to the front as the cable sticks out, the lack of dual tuner doesnt worry me as I used an antenna splitter and just switch back to my tv's inbuilt tuner. I lost sound once when switching channels, but it seems as its a known bug and fixed with the latest firmware update.I also love the feature where it groups the channels when you push a number ie if you push 1, it will display all the CH10 channels.A friend and i both got one just before new year, both agreed best buy of the year.

Pros

  • Small easy to use tranpor

Cons

  • Hard to find

Best Uses

  • Recording storing

It's tiny, it's easy to install & portable to load from your computer( with hard drivr added) Works well as set top box & time shifting is superb & simple to use.
The manual explains what it can do but little on how to go about it. It's far ahead of anything else I have looked at. Personal photo's are shown as slide show & home movies look great.

What a bargain buy !

By Trev the Techy

from Perth

Pros

  • Cost
  • Ease of setup and use
  • Excellent Remote
  • Good Quality Build
  • Multiple functions
  • Portability
  • Tiny size

Cons

  • Interface can be slowish

Best Uses

  • HD DVB receiver
  • HD DVB Recording
  • USB backup drive for PC

For the price you cant go wrong with this! I was a bit sceptical but it works well. I didnt want to pay $500+ for an HD receorder i wouldnt use that often so for [$] (+ the $100 for the 500GB hard disk i put in it) its perfect. True it doesnt have twin tuners or some of the flashy functions of expensive machines but as a basic recorder its fantastic! Still has all the live TV time shift/pause funtions, programable recording etc. Its so small (about the size of your average USB backup drive) which means you can easily take it to a friends house and watch something you have recorded there. Plus you have the music, photo and movie functions. For the price, its amazing what it does but dont expect all the function of a $500+ system. After all, if you bought a $15,000 Getz would you expect it to be the same as a $40,000 holden ??!

      1. Yes you can just plug that in via the usb adapter.

      2. The appeal of this is that it doesnt come with a drive. It seriously takes 30 seconds to install a drive that you have lying around or picked up from your local swapmeet. We swap drives all the time.

I have installed a 2.5 inch WD 500GB S-ATA drive but the system doesn't seem to recognize it. When I try the disk check it just says "Disk check failed" after a couple of seconds. Is there anything I can do to diagnose the issue?

I have physically installed it twice to confirm that the connections are firm and the HD Guide is fitted snug. I have no idea if the disk is formatted or how long the unit would take to format the disk. Is there any indication other than the disk check as to what is the issue?

      Hi,
I had the same problem with my HD. You need to format it first in the NTFS file system before the unit will be able to recognise the drive. I hooked my unit up to my computer via USB and downloaded HP USB disk formatting tool to format the drive. Just google it, there should be heaps of links to download. Hope this helps.

    Hi,
I'm thinking about purchasing this product, but was wondering about the PVR function. If I already have a HD tuner in my tv and watch one channel ,can I record another channel in HD using the box if its hooked up to the TV's AV. In other words , can I get away with not having a twin tuner PVR recorder?

Asked on 11/2/2010 by Kristy from Adelaide

      A:

You would have to purchase a splitter amplifier for your Antenna, so you could feed reception into the Dvico and also into your television.

Note that if the splitter isn't amplified, it may reduce the quality of your reception.

I have an analog tv and would like to know if I install the DViCO can I record the tv chanels or will it only record the digital chanels?

Asked on 1/2/2010 by Vicki from Perth

    1 answer

    • A:

To answer your question I just tried it on one I bought last week.

Yes, you can record the analog signal. But, considering the expected life of the analog TV signal it may not be a benefit for long.

The digital signal also carries the channels programme guide allowing you to quickly set a recording. The analog signal does not, so you will need to manually set the record times or hit the 'Record' button and record as you watch.

      A:

It should pickup all freeview stations. If it picks up Nine Go here in Sydney, there is no reason why it should not pickup Win Go in the rural areas. Please check the aerial or antenna you are using if it's digital compatible , if not, it can effect the ability of the product to find all stations.

    1) Is it R-2230 or R-3330

    2) Does it have network port i.e. can we connect it to ethernet on home LAN? or what do you mean by "Network Media Player"

reason why I asked those questions is because your description is missleading. see 2nd paragraph.

      A:

Yes, when the unit is connected via USB and the TViX-2230 has an internal HDD, the Mac should be able to pick it up as a mass storage device just like in Windows. However, the TViX Netshare software is only windows compatible.

Not so sure about this - Macs can only see NTFS formatted drives as READ ONLY, and Dvico recommend using NTFS over FAT32. Please can you clarify before I order one.

To utilise the HD recording capacity of the DVicO TViX-2230 Media Player, can I/how would I, attach it to my TV which has a built-in HD Tuner?

You don't connect it to your tv's tuner. The DVicO TViX-2230 Media Player has an inbuilt digital tuner. It records to the internal hard drive.

  • Q:

Can you attach a 3.5" external hard drive with this? and can you watch HD channels on an analogue TV with this player? last question - Can you attach your computer with this device to watch for example YouTube on your TV?

Asked on 22/12/2009 by D from Melbourne, VIC

    1 answer

    • A:

You can attach any external USB hard drive (or other device) to it, however, I don't believe you can record to that hard drive, only view content from it. I am going to add a question about this.

Yes, you can pickup and watch any channel on any TV.

Your final question seems to suggest that you're hoping to use the device essentially like a graphics card to connect to your TV. So no, you cannot. It is used to read files from your computer, hard drive, etc. You could, however, download files from YouTube if you wanted to play them back later on your TV. I use www.keepvid.com.

This unit is sold without hard drive. You can install 2.5' SATA Hard drive in order to record to internally. Alternatively, it works with any 2.5' or 3.5' external hard drives.
