Product Details

DViCO TViX-2230 Ultimate HD Compact Media Player, Digital High Definition Set Top Box and PVR Jukebox

The award winning manufacturer DViCO brings you the smallest personal video recorder with time-shifting capabilities and High Definition Digital Set Top Box on the market. With up to 1080i HDMI output, you will also enjoy high definition quality photos, movie and music files direct on your TV. You can also benefit from finally recording all those video tapes from the old camcorder onto one HDD when installed. The massive multimedia functions, such as slideshows with music, DVD jukebox and many more give this player endless functionality. The clean, simple user interface makes navigating around all that the R2230 has to offer is a joy. A must have for any gadget lover!

The R2230 will receive and record all types of terrestrial digital broadcasting signals. Just plug in your TV antenna cable and start watching High Definition Digital programming. You can watch it now or later, or simply pause live TV and carry on where you left off when ready! The DViCO TViX PVR R2230 is one such gadget, offering much more than merely TV recording. In fact, it's actually two devices rolled into one - a network media player and a PVR. Reap all the benefits this digital media centre can offer you while housed in a case smaller than your centre speaker.

High Definition Digital Set Top Box

With built in DVB-T support and an antenna socket, you've got all you need to watch the new broadcasting format in High Definition. If you don't have a High Definition TV then this unit will downscale the signal to allow viewing.

1080i HD Recorder

An easy to use scheduler allows you to record your favourite shows simply by entering the time and date. If you want to record the same show each week, let the scheduler know that it's a weekly show and you need never program it again. It is just that easy!

HD Video Player

If real life intrudes upon your favourite TV show, hit the pause button and the R2230 will start recording on the fly. Hit pause again and it'll play back from where you left off, but now you'll be able to skip through ad breaks. Time shifting allows you to rewind a live show by up to four hours (even more if you change the default setting), and then play it back frame by frame. It's a perfect feature for those sporting moments when you know the umpire got it wrong, and require blow-by-blow analysis.

Real-Time One Touch Recording

By installing a 2.5" HDD hard drive the R2230 gives you ability record with various features like direct recording, scheduled recording through EPG (Electronic Program Guide). You can easily upgrade and expand the capacity of HDD like PC up-grading; it can back up the recorded files to or from the PC, Digital Camera or TV programs. It will also support movie files from Blu-Ray DVDs such as VOB and ISO files. With the TViX PVR you are able to record your favourite programs by setting the scheduler, and with your weekly shows you just change the cycle. All you need to do is set the time once and forget about it!

Time-Shifting

Pause and replay live-broadcasting HDTV shows by simply pressing the pause button and then pick up right where you left off. The TViX PVR provides various file playback functions such as pause, instant replay, time-shifting with the scroll bar, fast-forward, rewind and so forth.

What a great little gadget. Clear picture/reception. This little unit belies its size. It has multiple uses: use simply as a digital TV channel receiver, or watch video files, view photos, listen to music or add a HDD to create your very own PVR. The only drawback is not all file types play, even though they're supposed to (as stated in the item description) and there is no ability to record to an external device, such as an external HDD or flash drive - hence I've only given it 4 out of 5 stars. It does have Wi-Fi capability, if you purchase a compatible dongle (I've yet to try the Wi-Fi connection and HDD recording, but it'll be great once it's all running). Comes with all the cables you should need, as well as a USB splitter to enable dual USB connectivity. This little beauty is fabulous for travelling, as it's miniature size is great for portability without lacking in capability. A great addition to anyone's electronics collection! I bought this as a Christmas present for myself - what a great buy!! So glad I did.

DViCO TViX-2230

By pureredcordial

from Canberra

Pros

  • Easy to install drive
  • Straight forward setup
  • Very small and portable

Cons

  • Slow channel change
  • Slow EPG load

Best Uses

  • Basic PVR
  • Play media from USB drive

It really is a small unit. Works fine but the slow channel change is a bit annoying. I have been told a later firmware improves this but I haven't tried yet.

Great size and price

By Eskimo

Verified Reviewer

Pros

  • Flexible capacity
  • No compression required
  • Small Size

Cons

  • NFTS file format

Best Uses

  • Portable media centre

I use this product to show kid's DVDs in the car. I was sick and tired of having to change discs every 50 - 60 minutes when on a long trip. With a 500 Gb hard drive, I can store 60 DVDs and the kids remain entertained.

This device plays the DVD's .vobs directly from the hard drive and there is no need to compress them into another format.

Be careful if you operate Mac OS X because the drive has to be formated in Microsoft's NFTS format to use the device as a PVR. OS X does not support NFTS so you will need a work around if you require the PVR functionality.

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Portable Media Player
    • Portable storage
    • PVR

I bought this as a present for myself for Christmas last year. Loaded it up with media and took it with me on a two month business trip to Scandinavia. It's lightweight and compact so was a breeze to fit in my luggage. It was an absolute life-saver! Only took 2 minutes to get hooked up to the TV in my room and I had access to all my movies and tv shows - in English! At home I have it connected to my plasma via HDMI and use it primarily as a PVR. It does its job perfectly. The only issue I've had was with the EPG during daylight savings - it didn't work properly when the DST setting was enabled. DViCO support wasn't able to resolve the issue but now that daylight savings is finished there are no problems. May be fixed with a firmware upgrade. All in all very satisfied with the unit - a bargain for the price!

I was really excited to get this all in one system only to be disapointed that it infact can not record unless you install your own hard drive. I didn't think it was clear in the description. I get very clear digital tv through it. I know just have to figure out how to get it to do everything else.

From my knowledge with this product, you should return it for warranty replacement. This could become an ongoing issue if you leave it be. You would still have warranty on the product.

Should be fine. Output of the transformer is listed as "3. 0A at 5. 0V". Single pin jack plugs into the unit. The jack has a hole in the middle. Positive to centre hole, negative outer sheath of jack. Outer sheath diameter about 2.5 mm and inner hole diameter is about 1-1.5 mm.
Alternatively get an inexpensive 12v to 110v AC (or 240v AC) inverter. The supplied AC transformer takes either.

Kristine, The short answer is Yes, the TVix-2230 has Composite Video Output that can be connected to the AV input of an analog TV which should allow you to use the 2230 just like a HD set-top-box. And if you add a Hard Disc Drive ($70-100 & easy to do) you can pause, time-shift and record programs.
                I hope this helps.

Yep, you can get all of the digital TV channels. You can even pause and rewind live TV. It works just the same as a set top box, but with the added advantage of being able to record TV too. You do need to buy a hard drive separately if you want to pause live TV though. It will show live digital TV without the hard drive, so you don't need to get it right away.

It will work like any recording device. If you play a program through it, then you can record it to the device. If you hook up foxtel to output directly into the device, and then onto the TV then you can record directly yes. Just like with the old school VCR's.

I hooked my unit up to my computer via USB and downloaded HP USB disk formatting tool to format the drive. Just google it, there should be heaps of links to download. Hope this helps.

You would have to purchase a splitter amplifier for your Antenna, so you could feed reception into the Dvico and also into your television.

Note that if the splitter isn't amplified, it may reduce the quality of your reception.

To answer your question I just tried it on one I bought last week.

Yes, you can record the analog signal. But, considering the expected life of the analog TV signal it may not be a benefit for long.

The digital signal also carries the channels programme guide allowing you to quickly set a recording. The analog signal does not, so you will need to manually set the record times or hit the 'Record' button and record as you watch.

Yes, this model has composite and S-Video inputs, which you should be able to connect Foxtel through.

Can you attach a 3.5" external hard drive with this? and can you watch HD channels on an analogue TV with this player? last question - Can you attach your computer with this device to watch for example YouTube on your TV?

You can attach any external USB hard drive (or other device) to it, however, I don't believe you can record to that hard drive, only view content from it. I am going to add a question about this.

Yes, you can pickup and watch any channel on any TV.

Your final question seems to suggest that you're hoping to use the device essentially like a graphics card to connect to your TV. So no, you cannot. It is used to read files from your computer, hard drive, etc. You could, however, download files from YouTube if you wanted to play them back later on your TV. I use www.keepvid.com.

This unit is sold without hard drive. You can install 2.5' SATA Hard drive in order to record to internally. Alternatively, it works with any 2.5' or 3.5' external hard drives.
