    As the Philips Portable is analog and not digitally ready what happens when analog is removed and everything is digital - do you require a set top box or something to travel with

      Yep...you will need to get a set top box for it to work when the analog signal is turned off. There are some nifty little standard definition boxes around for $40 that will do the job, but then you need access to power to run the set top box,so it won't be as versatile.
