Disney

One of five children to an Irish-Canadian father and a German-American mother, Walter Elias Disney was born in December 1901.

Once described as the "most significant figure in graphic arts since Leonardo", Disney came to fame by creating the Mickey Mouse character, and the first ever animated film with synchronised sound, 'Steamboat Willie' in 1928.

The first ever feature-length animated film was Disney's 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' in 1937, holding on to the position of highest-grossing film in history until 'Gone with the Wind' a couple of years later.

Today, the Walt Disney Company is the largest media and entertainment corporation in the world, including a major Hollywood studio, eleven theme parks and several major television stations, including ESPN.
