William Henry Gates III left Harvard University in 1975 to found Microsoft in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the rest is history.

Most well known for its Windows operating system, the company is also responsible for the Office suite of software, Visual Studio, .NET Technology, Windows Media Player, Live Messenger, Internet Explorer, Hotmail, the Xbox entertainment system, the Zune media player, and a host of computing-related hardware such as webcams, mice, keyboards etc.
