Panasonic
Panasonic was founded in 1918 by Konosuke Matsushita, initially selling just lamp sockets. The company then went on to bigger items like bicycle lamps, light fixtures, irons and motors.
A little-known part of Panasonic history is its production of high-quality road and touring bicycles from 1945 until the 1980s, even being outsourced by Schwinn to build some of their models.
Panasonic has also sold products under the National brand name, but these have been restricted to the Japanese market for many years now.
Interestingly, Matsushita's brother-in-law founded one of Panasonic's present-day competitors, Sanyo, after World War II.
