Vivitar

Vivitar

Max Ponder and John Best founded their import business in 1938 under the name Ponder & Best. Starting off with import of German photo equipment, they moved on to importing cameras and other photo equipment from Japan after World War II. The Vivitar brand name was created in the early 1960s, and the company was instrumental in gaining acceptance for using interchangeable lens mounts, allowing lenses to be used on cameras from other manufacturers.

Today, digital cameras and other photo accessories are produced under the Vivitar brand name.
